You're on Vacation! Stay on Vacation

Vacation

It’s officially the dog days of summer. A time for boating, BBQ’s, and Jimmy Buffett. But while you’re slipping into Margaritaville, are the daily operations of your business eating away at your psyche?

You need to stop—your business is going to be fine. You need to clear your nagging brain and immediately book a Shiatsu massage.

But how can I, Bill.com? It’s MY business! We get it. It’s not easy to disengage from something so important. We know it’s common for entrepreneurs to simply skip yearly holidays and vacation time. According to this survey, only 57% of small business owners plan on taking a vacation and 48% consider utilizing their time off as a “low priority.”

This is a travesty. Jimmy Buffett is very disappointed in you.

Not only should you take vacation—you should enjoy it. It’s critical to realize that your mental and physical health is just as important as the success of your business.

The Benefits of Bora Bora

An anti-vacation mentality is a real problem in any company. According to Entrepreneur, "When you take vacation time, you're setting a good example. Demonstrating to your staff that there is life outside of work can be a major morale booster that adds significant value to your company."

You may eat, sleep, and breathe your business, but it’s important to draw the line. Taking your vacation time sends a message to employees that you understand they have lives, purposes, and interests outside of the company and its day-to-day operations. Plus, you’ll benefit from a better work-life balance as well. When you take a proper vacation you'll be refreshed and relaxed, allowing yourself to come back to work with heightened focus and a better perspective.

Disconnect in Delphi

Now, we’re not crazy. As a business owner, it would be fairly impossible for you to completely disconnect while you’re out of the office.

Which is why it’s imperative to implement processes and tools that can offer you the flexibility you need on the go.

Number 1...

Ensure that your company is optimized for virtual operations. This will allow you to monitor your business’ daily activities without being physically tied to a location.

Number 2...

Are the tools that you have in place mobile-friendly? Can you access documents from your iPhone or approve bills from the beach? If the answer is no, seriously consider adopting an automated, cloud-based solution that will give you the freedom you need.

Number 3...

Trust in your employees. You hired them! You know their work ethic. You need to trust that they will have things covered while you’re out singing a rousing rendition of “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

The key to success? Ensuring the proper business processes are in place—which begins and ends with a simple, digital approval workflow. You can relax, go to a luau, and approve anything with just a click of a button.

The dog days are just beginning and your vacation is waiting! Trust us, you deserve it.
