86% of SMBs use AI in their finance operations. But only 19% say they trust it completely, and the reasons they give come down to data quality and security. Different reasons, same root questions: who's actually in control here? And can we trust this AI?
AI earns trust when three things are true: you're in control of what it does, you’re able to validate its work, and you're confident it’s built on a foundation of scale and security.
Today, we're launching a new suite of AI capabilities built around exactly that. Here's what we’re delivering for customers:
- Risk intelligence to spot unusual payments before they cost you
- Controls to monitor what AI does, and switch AI tools on or off
- Faster, AI-assisted onboarding
BILL catches mistakes before money moves
In FY2026 alone, roughly $1.5 billion in BILL customer payment holds came from unusual payments or plain mistakes. For example, a vendor sends you an invoice for the wrong amount. Simple mistakes like this cost finance teams time to fix.
Finance teams can correct any mistakes faster and keep money moving with the new risk intelligence capability. BILL’s AI checks every invoice and automatically flags amounts that deviate from historical patterns for your business and for the vendor.

The impact to our customers is even bigger than we anticipated. Since August 2026, BILL’s risk intelligence has already autonomously detected on average $138,000 of mistakes or unusual payments per customer, saving them a total of 1,800+ days of manual work to resolve the issues.
"BILL's Risk Intelligence is one more set of eyes on your bills," says Cristine Remington, Accounts Payable Manager at AdvicePeriod. "I recently had a legal bill 33x higher than average, and BILL flagged it the second it hit my inbox. Now it's even easier to review and approve bills with confidence, so our team can focus on the tasks that matter."

See and control what AI is doing
Every SMB is at a different point in its AI journey. Some are ready to automate as much as possible. Others want a person checking every decision. Most fall somewhere in between.
Finance teams know their business best. They should be the ones deciding where and how AI works for them. Almost nine in ten told us they want centralized, in-workflow control over their AI, so that’s what we built: one place to stay on top of every action BILL’s AI has taken on your behalf, switch AI tools on or off, or decide how much AI does for your business.

175,000 businesses have already used one or more AI capabilities in BILL, completing more than 15 million workflows. Now, these customers have a clear, auditable record of all of their AI actions. As BILL adds more agentic capabilities, this hub is where your finance team will tailor, deploy, and control AI across your business.
Getting started just got a whole lot faster
Setting up a new financial platform shouldn't feel like a project where you fill in every field manually. Now BILL's AI-assisted onboarding takes the first pass, learning how your business works from day one, personalizing your profile by recommending the right products for you, and cutting your setup time by up to 50%.

BILL also automatically suggests vendors and allows users to add default approvers, trimming vendor customization work by 70%. Review and adjust anything before it goes live, you're always the one who signs off.
While you're ramping up, BILL keeps incoming documents organized too, labeling each one as an invoice or a W-9, so your team never has to guess what it's looking at, with more smart inbox features on the way.

Why BILL: powerful AI, on your terms
BILL’s AI is built on moving more than $2 trillion for millions of real businesses. That volume is a training advantage. It means BILL has seen just about every vendor pattern, every billing anomaly, every fraud signal. And with every transaction, across every business on the platform, the AI gets sharper, which gives finance teams and business owners more control and confidence in what it does for them.
