The BILL Executive Leadership Team, after careful review and consideration of our business, teams, and goals, has made the decision to update our organization to align against our highest priorities and position BILL for the future. We are sharing below a note sent from our CEO and Founder, René Lacerte, to BILL employees today.
BILL Organizational Update
Hi BILLders,
During our Q3 FY2026 earnings call today at 1:30pm PT, we will announce important business updates that I want to share with you first.
Over the last few years, we have delivered strong profitability and growth, evolved our integrated platform, created more value for customers, built new AI capabilities, broadened our partnerships and distribution channels, and enhanced our durable business model.
Today, our focus is on the future. We are accelerating our work to deliver innovation with greater impact, and position BILL for the future. To achieve this, we have made two decisions.
First, we will become an AI native company. AI is the single biggest disruptive force our industry and many others have ever seen. It’s also the most significant opportunity we have to truly empower our customers – the ‘Fortune 5 Million’. To capitalize on that opportunity, we will transform our company. We will evolve what we build, how we build, the way we serve our customers, how we show up in the world, and how we work. In the coming days, we will talk with employees in more detail about what this means practically and operationally.
In an AI-first world, the time between ideation and execution is much faster. This compels us to also change how we work, and how we are structured as a company.
Second, we have made the hard decision to reduce our workforce by up to 30% by the end of Q4 FY2026. Going forward, we will be a flatter, leaner, faster, and more agile organization; with our resources focused around fewer, higher impact priorities. This is a considered and deliberate decision that reflects the needs of the business. We are structuring our business to achieve profitability at meaningful levels for a company of our scale and tenure; while also positioning our business to operate more effectively and efficiently in an AI-first world. I am deeply grateful for the talent and dedication of BILLders who have all contributed so much to our success, our customers, and our culture.
The next chapter of BILL will look and feel very different. We’re not just moving faster – we’re operating as a more agile and dynamic organization, where we will break new ground and raise the bar for how we serve customers and the expectations we set for ourselves. As a smaller team, it’s even more critical to have every single BILLder working with the same urgency, the same mindset, and towards the same goals.
We understand some BILLders may not feel aligned to these changes, along with our evolving strategy, culture and operating model. As a first step, we’re making space for employees to tell us that you’re ready to leave BILL and find your next opportunity. To help make that transition, we’re offering a voluntary separation program, capped at ~20% of our overall workforce, which gives employees the option to voluntarily separate from BILL with an enhanced separation package. We will then finalize the remaining reduction by the end of June. All employees will receive more information by email later today.
This is a pivotal moment for our company and we are making these decisions from a position of strength. A transformation of this scale will not be easy. We need every single one of us committed to each other, and to our strategy. For those who will leave BILL, we are very grateful for your contributions. We will support you through this transition with care, respect, and resources for what’s next.
I have every confidence that we will emerge from this transformation a stronger company, with an exceptional team and culture, and better positioned to serve our customers and deliver on our mission.
