The BILL Divvy Card requires credit approval through underwriting — no security deposit and no personal guarantee required. The initial application has no impact on your personal credit score.[1] Credit lines range from $1,000 to $15M, subject to approval,[2] and the card program carries a $0 annual fee.[3]
This guide covers everything you need to know: eligibility, the application process, credit line ranges, fees, what comes with the card, and how to interpret claims you may have seen from other sources.
What is the BILL Divvy Card?
The BILL Divvy Card is a business charge card powered by Visa and offered through BILL Spend & Expense, BILL's corporate card and expense management platform. Unlike a traditional secured business credit card, the BILL Divvy Card:
- Does not require a cash security deposit
- Does not require a personal guarantee
- Is a charge card — the full balance is due each billing cycle, with no revolving balance
- Comes with built-in expense management software at no additional cost[3]
The card is issued by one of Divvy Pay, LLC's bank partners (including WebBank, Cross River Bank, member FDIC, or Wex). It is not a deposit product. For your specific lender, see your Cardholder Agreement.[4]
BILL Divvy Card requirements at a glance
Who is eligible for the BILL Divvy Card?
Eligibility for a BILL Spend & Expense account and the BILL Divvy Card is subject to credit approval and underwriting. The card is designed for businesses with an established credit profile, not businesses building credit from scratch.
Eligible applicants include:
- New BILL prospects (businesses not yet using BILL)
- Existing BILL AP customers who want to add Spend & Expense
- BILL customers who added both Spend & Expense and AP after July 2023
Currently not eligible:
- BILL customers who enrolled in both Spend & Expense and AP before July 2023 (approximately 4,200 organizations), though exceptions may be requested through BILL's internal process.
Because BILL offers multiple underwriting models, businesses at different stages and financial profiles can access credit lines that fit their situation, from early-growth SMBs to established mid-market companies.
What BILL looks for during underwriting
BILL uses multiple factors when evaluating an application, including your business's financial health and creditworthiness. Unlike some models that base credit limits solely on your connected bank account balance, BILL's multi-input underwriting produces credit lines that stay predictable and do not fluctuate with your checking account balance alone.[5]
How to apply for the BILL Divvy Card
- Start your BILL Spend & Expense application. Apply online. The process takes minutes with no hard pull on your personal credit during the initial application.[1]
- Complete the application. Provide basic business information, including details about authorized signers and beneficial owners to satisfy KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements.
- Receive your approval decision. If approved, your credit line amount is determined at this stage. Credit lines range from $1,000 to $5,000,000; this amount is not guaranteed and varies based on the application.[2]
- Set up your account. An admin must add a valid birthdate to fully activate the BILL Divvy Card for payments. Accounts missing this step are unable to make payments using the card.
- Start spending and earning rewards. Once active, issue physical and virtual cards, set budgets, and begin earning rewards on eligible purchases.[6]
If you already have a BILL Spend & Expense account, you do not need to re-apply to use the BILL Divvy Card for accounts payable. Your existing account and credit line connect automatically for eligible customers.
What to expect from credit lines
Credit lines run from $1,000 to $15M,[2] with the specific amount determined at approval. A few things to know:
- Multiple underwriting options are available: variable, fixed, or pre-payment structures depending on your business profile and stage.
- Credit line increases may be available over time and can be requested from within your BILL dashboard.
- BILL reports to the Small Business Financial Exchange (SBFE®)[7], so on-time card payments can help build your business credit history.
That reporting structure matters for businesses thinking about long-term financing. Your on-time payment record builds your business credit profile, which is what matters for future business lending, rather than mixing into your personal credit history.
Fees
The BILL Divvy Card has no fees for the card program itself:
- $0 annual fee[3]
- $0 per-card fees: issue cards to every employee at no extra cost
- $0 monthly or initiation fees
- $0 BILL transaction fees when using the card for vendor payments through the AP feature
One fee to be aware of: if you use a non-BILL card to fund invoice payments through Pay by Card, a 2.9% surcharge applies.[8] Using the BILL Divvy Card for AP payments eliminates that fee, making it a meaningful cost consideration for high-AP-volume businesses.
What comes with the BILL Divvy Card?
Qualifying for the card gets you more than just a corporate card. Every approved account includes:
- Physical and virtual cards for every employee, with configurable spend limits per card
- Enforceable budgets: set spending limits by person, team, or project. Cards auto-decline when limits are reached rather than flagging overspend after the fact
- Merchant-category controls: block or allow specific spending categories
- Real-time spend tracking: every transaction visible the moment it happens
- Instant card lock/unlock via mobile app
- Approval workflows for post-transaction review
- Accounting integrations: deep syncs with QuickBooks, Xero, Oracle NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, and Acumatica
- HRIS integrations: compatible with 40+ HR systems for employee onboarding
- Rewards on eligible purchases[6]
Rewards
Earning rewards is based on how frequently you pay off your balance:
Rewards options include cash back, statement credits, gift cards, and travel benefits, with no cap on points earned.[6] For BILL AP customers using the BILL Divvy Card for invoice payments, rewards are earned on vendor payments as well, not only on employee spend.
Full rewards details, including holding periods and redemption minimums, are in the Rewards Agreement.[6]
Account status requirements
After approval, your credit account must remain in Active status to make card payments. Two states can prevent card use:
- Pending: most often occurs when an admin has not yet added a valid birthdate to the account. The BILL Divvy Card is disabled until this setup step is completed, though other payment methods remain available.
- Frozen: the credit line can be frozen due to fraud, KYC issues, or delinquent payments. Card payments are disabled until the issue is resolved with BILL.
BILL Divvy Card vs. secured business credit cards
The BILL Divvy Card is not a secured card, and that distinction matters for businesses evaluating their options.
The BILL Divvy Card is designed for businesses that can qualify for an unsecured product. If your business has limited credit history and specifically needs a secured card to build credit from scratch, a secured business card may be a better fit: the BILL Divvy Card requires approval rather than a deposit.
Is the BILL Divvy Card right for your business?
The BILL Divvy Card is a strong fit for SMBs and growing businesses that:
- Need flexible, unsecured business credit without a security deposit
- Want to earn rewards on both employee spend and vendor invoice payments
- Need built-in expense management at no extra cost
- Want hard spending controls that prevent overspend rather than just tracking it after the fact
- Are looking to consolidate payables into a single platform
It may not be the right fit for businesses with limited or no credit history that cannot qualify for an unsecured product, or for businesses that need a secured card with a deposit to build credit from zero.
